Contact Lens Corner

Developments in Daily Disposables
Our legacy of being among the earliest adopters of single use lens technology continues as we are proud to offer the latest and greatest in daily disposable contact lenses. The newest products boast even greater resistance to dehydration (no “dry eye”) as they are “surrounded” by a layer of moisture and some designs even elute moisture as you wear them.  Their “high-definition optics” and special filters protect your eyes against glare and strain when using digital devices. These newer “feel like nothing” lenses come in virtually all prescriptions so remember to request an upgrade at your next visit!

Premium Lenses for Presbyopia

Still haven’t thrown away your reading glasses? Well, the time may indeed have arrived! Manufacturers have stepped up to the challenge of creating “multi- focus” contact lenses and we’ve got the newest in store for you. Available in most prescriptions for both daily and monthly replacement schedules, these contact lenses are for anyone wishing to reduce their dependence on reading glasses: current and new wearers alike. Even part-time wearers (including ‘weekend warriors’) will enjoy the freedom of flexible vision from near to far and in-between that these contact lenses deliver. Ask about them at your next visit (even if you’ve tried before) or call for a special trial fitting!

Specialty Lenses for Special Needs

Big, Small, Soft, or Rigid
Here at FKR we are renowned for rapidly adopting the most advanced contact lens manufacturing technologies. To deliver the most customized fit prescription to patients with complex corneal conditions we employ digital corneal and scleral imaging devices to precisely match the contact lens to your eyes’ individual shape and optical correction in both soft and rigid designs. We can even fabricate custom lenses taken from an impression of your eye (now how cool is that?

Scleral Lenses
These large diameter rigid lenses (which vault the cornea and “land” on the white part of the eye) deliver the comfort of a soft lens and the vision of a rigid lens. These lenses are game changers for patients with keratoconus or other corneal irregularities. There’s no reason to suffer any longer with the discomfort of grit under the lenses or the anxiety of lens loss!

Dry Eye Defense
As a major referral center specializing in the diagnosis and management of dry eye, we aim to get to the root cause of your dry eye quickly. We use a methodical protocol of simple, non-invasive tests and remedies to achieve an accurate diagnosis and custom treatment plan. Here are two of the newest tools to manage your ocular surface health.

Know Your Score!
We can now clinically quantify the levels of human tear film protein known as lactoferrin. This protein confers antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity in the human tear film. Knowing your score, we can devise a treatment plan that is specific to you.

If your testing reveals limited tear quantity (Aqueous Deficient Dry Eye), we are pleased to be among the first to offer a novel solution, known as Lacrifill®. Lacrifill® temporarily reduces the eyes’ normal tear drainage with hyaluronic acid, a lubricant found naturally in the body. This enables more of your tears to stay on your eye throughout the day. This simple and safe procedure can be done within minutes at your next appointment.

Additional Therapies for Dry Eye
We also offer same-day in-office treatments such as Tear Care® and Lipiflow®, which will “unclog” and rejuvenate your oil-producing glands with healthier oils, there is less tear evaporation. Ask us which method is best for you! Our team at FKR will tailor your therapy to address your current symptoms with a focus on continued and effective management of your condition.

Kid’s Corner

Pediatric Eye Care: The Future in NOW
Over the past several years there have been major developments in contact lenses to help slow down the progression of myopia or nearsightedness in patients between the ages of 5 and 25. We at FKR are proactive in treating your child’s myopia as early as possible, limiting their risk of future eye health problems such as glaucoma and myopic macular degeneration as they age. There are two scientifically supported modalities of contact lenses for myopia management:

Orthokeratology: Ortho-K is an overnight corneal reshaping lens, which gently corrects your child’s vision while they’re asleep! During waking hours, your child will have the benefit of excellent vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Soft Contact Lenses: Soft” Distance Center” Multifocal Contact Lenses have been proven to prevent myopia progression in children. These daily disposable lenses are worn during the day providing clear, comfortable vision, while limiting the increase in your child’s prescription!

Early Detection of Keratoconus
If you or any family members suffer from Keratoconus you are well aware of the visual compromise this condition brings. Advancing diagnostic technologies now allow us to detect keratoconus very early in pediatric patients. This is critically important because of the therapeutic procedures now available to stop the progression of corneal changes. Please call our office at your earliest convenience to schedule a complementary keratoconus screening for children ages 10-21. We are dedicated to ensuring your family’s eye health for now and decades to come.
